Many thanks... it's a step in the right direction for now. I shall have a look at the dropouts if the rain stops long enough to get to my workshop! Cheers Joglo.

Unknown frames... is this forum still active? Not even sure it will be pre '97 Was just based on the metallic candy orange of that era, and a spattering of Acera X It had Acera X rims, crankset, and the V brakes with the machined A in. It did however have 3x7 grip shifters and for some reason an...

1996 Saracen Tufftrax. STX Groupset. Ritchey Finishing Kit. Original Factory Specification.

It's nice to know there are at least a few people out there who don't mind a bit of STX still. I've got some Deore LX on an old Kona, and whilst it rides lovely, it just doesn't look lovely, nor make the metallic burgundy on that pop like this does. I guess it's a bit like older American cars...

1996 Saracen Tufftrax. STX Groupset. Ritchey Finishing Kit. Original Factory Specification.

Thanks for the kind words. I don't ride this in anger anymore, so it won't be going anywhere that'll push the cantilever brakes out their comfort zone!

Nice work. Appreciate the effort you put into that bike. It's always sad to let them go, but there's always another project to get on with. I can't afford to keep mine forever either, nor have the space. I'm going to ride it a bit more now the weather is nicer. In the meantime I still need to...

1996 Saracen Tufftrax. STX Groupset. Ritchey Finishing Kit. Original Factory Specification.

I have seen a few on here, so apologies to those who may class this as nowt new. Likewise I'm not in any way trying to compete, or compare this one to others beforehand. I think I've gotten this one pretty close to catalogue spec, so I thought I wouldn't offend anyone, and maybe just a couple...

    Stuck/fused pedals. What’s the solution?

That, or it highlights the dilemma of the cycling community trying to prevent a fuel crisis.. yet facing the eternal struggle against bimetallic / galvanic corrosion! Save fuel... buy more lithium grease & coppercrest!

    Stuck/fused pedals. What’s the solution?

Awesomeness personified for relentless persistence if nothing else! I bought a cheap unloved Giant Peloton at the start of lockdown with the aim of turning it into a winter flat bar commuter (gravel / grit bike in youffspeak). The RSX groupset was all sound & the Alex rims still freely spun...

new drivetrain for '94 Kona Fire Mountain ?

Did you get this sorted out, or learned more since posting. From experience, buy the best you can afford. Decide on whether you want to keep it stock, upgraded, or just affordable new. Most 7 speed Shimano stuff is fairly interchangeable. Just bear in mind if you have any megarange, you'll need...

Claud Butler Miura - bang average, but still resplendent with its Psycho boots on.

Good morning Peachy!, and hello. Oddly enough it was trawling through many of your both highly informative and entertaining posts that got me to sign up. I was trying carbon date, (or CrMo date?) my Muira unsuccessfully as it appeared to fall into the few catalogues missing from here and...

Claud Butler Miura - bang average, but still resplendent with its Psycho boots on.

Well it won't excite that many folk, as 'dripping with oddles of Shimano Altus' is rarely a grand opening gambit. Neither are the Kalin bar ends made from recycled Fray Bentos pie tins. Nor is the Reynolds CrMo sticker going get many salivating. Also, I'm sure like myself, rapidly approaching...
