Re: rust The bottom bracket and chainstay bridge have suffered the worst from rust so they were treated with a converter.

Re: seatpost The seatpost is now out. It took the best part of two days and I used three tubs of caustic soda. Holes were plugged with blu tack and taped over to stop the solution going anywhere other than inside the seat tube. It's a messy job and I'm glad it's now done.

Re: coomber I tested it on a 1" long piece of the seat post and was amazed by how violent the stuff reacts. Spits and farts all over the place. Dont want to take any risks with it. How long did it take you ?

Re: Re: More or less the same place. I reckon the brazed one was previously tig welded hence the slightly wider grind marks.

Im not sure but they have both definately been replaced/refitted. Matt , i also was surprised to see the Tange mark. Which is one of the reasons i decided to renovate them. They feel nice quality.

Re: Cheers Rich The brake bosses are now removed from the forks. The "good one" has been removed and cleaned up ready. The grind marks are deeper than i thought and i didnt want to compremise the wall thickness so I didnt completely file them out. They will be dressed with braze when the new...

Re: turbo Yes it was near the entrance. Paid a £5 Wanted the white one inside but it had the crease in the leather which put me off.
