    1991 Kona Explosif DX

good work, deore shifters aren't that durable, if you are going to give it a workout, keep your eye out for XT variants that have more robust construction and likely to stay the course. the solid purple colour reminds me of the now defunct Rowntrees tooty frooties ;-)

    Orange Gringo £50 Oldham

Trust no-one on FB is probably a good starting point, whether or not there are dead men is a moot point but definitely hold on to your guns before pulling the trigger.

Hit by 6.9 Earthquake but I’m Ok

Hang in there, seems like they are decreasing in severity gradually at least. I have only been in a serious quake once but that did give me the sense of helplessness and fragility of human existence for life. It destroyed my brother's school though and he was initially quite pleased about that...

    M950 XTR advice

Dura Ace an even bigger can of worms than XTR so agree that wouldn't be a substitute, however there is a lot of NOS V1 octalink out there and prices can be random. It's a good callout that BB lengths may be wrong, however that may well help with a BB shell and chain line that was never intended...

    M950 XTR advice

Yes, sorry should have been more explicit that bottom pull has gear cable routed underneath the BB and so the cable joins the front mech from below. Top pull routes the gear cable along the top tube down the seat tube and joins the front mech from above. Newer mechs can be both top and bottom...

    M950 XTR advice

biggest issue is top pull versus bottom pull front mech surely? - as no option to mix/match when it comes to braze-ons and cable routing. I would also express some caution on chainring compatibility - be careful what you buy on ebay etc as some of the newer XTR chainrings have a...

    Araya Muddy Fox

survivor in great condition - those pedals usually wear out in a few months so this cant have been ridden much, ditto the cheapo shifters that wore out v fast. Looks like original Nitto 1 " bullmoose which is very desirable, particular with the built in cable hanger and the wheels are as...

1994 DB Axis TT Lite - Build Thread

Candy light blue this time which I think is suitably striking and a big improvement on the rather nondescript colours of late 90s Axis frames ( compared to the lovely splatter finishes of the earlier ones) the eagle eyed will spot an octalink BB - needed for the 1x drivetrain I had...

1994 DB Axis TT Lite - Build Thread

It will be no secret that I like a retro DiamondBack and I have a particular liking for the later TT lite frames - so was unable to forego this one : sadly a little too pitted to retain the original finish but the frameset is undamaged and in fine shape nonetheless - off to Cyclone for a...

Look whats just been invented 😉

I am hopeful that the fad of over designing everything to try to achieve a tiny amount of differentiation in a world of clones will soon disappear. The re-emergance of square taper gives me hope. We just need a backlash against carbon fibre on environmental impact and health grounds, since it is...
