At least they've got mudguards! Looks like an all chrome finish on the frame but I can't make out the brand. Shake Earnshaw, a good Yorkshire man from Wakefield area. His grandson was a clubmate of mine in Calder Clarion, quite a handy rider and very good on the back of a tandem incidentally...

Looking at the forks, probably a Bates frame. Great aero position for the 'pilot' and I like the aero 'skull caps'. The weather looks a bit like today, pimply sissing down

Decent frame pump . What happened to them

I had a similar experience with a metal pump. possibly a Bluemels, back in the early 70's. Middle of winter, cold, damp, foggy, roads covered in grit (you all know the sort of day!). About 15/20 miles to get home on the Sunday club run - and I get a double puncture! I think I was running...

    How rare is it

Does that mean he can only turn left? Weight saving taken to the extreme...................... ;)

    Beryl Burton's 1962 Bike Badge

Well, that's definitely it. I never knew she rode an Eddies Soens. I should have known because I used to have one! It will have been built by Billy Soens, Eddie's son, who actually ran the shop as well as frame building. At the time, very popular on Merseyside.

Decent frame pump . What happened to them

Never seen that done before but I understand the concept. Make sure it's drilled at the top not the bottom...........................

    How rare is it

It was the USA track team that rode with LH chainwheels. I think their logic was that the power to drive the bike from the chainwheel might have more influence on the LH side. It wasn't continued with though. I picked up an old frame a while ago that had a LH chainset fitted. It was cottered...

    Beryl Burton's 1967 Otley 12-Hour Course

He'd have had to be a contortionist to do that. The bike probably didn't help as it was made of 2 solo frames welded together and wan't perfectly straight. Great for going round right hand bends but left hand ones not so good  The next year we bought a new M&B one which was great...

Lo-pro bike, any info on maker?

A brand I've not come across before. And that's a Mavic 'Starfish' crankset? The monostay was/is (I believe) a standard CeeWay frame building fitting used by several builders. Nice bike.

    1980 Witcomb restoration

Really chunky seat stays! I remember this being a 'trend' in the early/mid 70's as I had a Dave Russell with similar style seat cluster. I like the paint scheme.

    Beryl Burton's 1962 Bike Badge

Thanks for the comments on this photo. I can't take any credit for it - especially as the night before I had been enjoying some liquid refreshment in Chester with my clubmate Ray (4 pints of Mackeson/Cider Black Velvet) and didn't get home till rather late and had to get up early to ride the...

    Witcomb frame model id

Going by the frame fittings and cable eye positions etc. I would say it is earlier than the dates mentioned. More like 50's/60's? I reckon Witcomb had a range of frames for all levels of price, this is maybe one of the lower ones?

    Beryl Burton's 1967 Otley 12-Hour Course

Better at 7.00 pm on a Thursday for the Yorkshire RC 'club' events. Harder contested than some opens! People came from all over to ride but the timekeeper only allowed around 30/40 riders max as she had to do both start and finish. I remember a guy came down from Cumbria one evening and was...

    Beryl Burton's 1967 Otley 12-Hour Course

What's with all the interest in Beryl, Joe? I was a clubmate of hers in 1977 but although I saw her quite frequently at events I was never very close. 1967 was before I moved to Yorkshire so didn't know the courses that well - but I might know a man who does. But don't hold your breath. Many...

    Beryl Burton's 1962 Bike Badge

Forgot to say it was taken by Bob Prince who was a regular photographer in the area at the time. He rarely took a poor shot.

    Beryl Burton's 1962 Bike Badge

Mine had a white head tube. I think this was the 'standard' Viking colour scheme at the time. Their Independent category team riders rode red and white bikes. West Cheshire TTCA 30 in May '66. Good grief -58 years ago!!

    Beryl Burton's 1962 Bike Badge

I wonder if the Raleigh road bike is the one she rode the Grand Prix de Nations TT course on? She amazed the local French officials by being a lot faster than they expected a mere female to go and (I think) weren't really ready for her at the finish line. BTW, I had one of those Viking red and...

    The British bike thread

Seeing the Lenton Grand Prix makes me think that my first 'proper' bike might have been one. It was (I think? It was a l o n g time ago!) a Silver Grey with Yellow contrasts. I bought it from a local clubmate and rode fixed wheel on it until the rear dropout cracked and my LBS sensibly...

Stripped bottom bracket threads -solutions please

Did the frame ever get 'passed on' to someone? If I'd seen this at the time I'd probably have made an offer.
