    Steel or aluminium frame?

"A frame built by pro's who know their stuff, from superior materials that work, any frame is a good frame" Yeah, this is the bottom line, well said! However, carbon doesn't have to be expensive... very decent secondhand frames (from a loving home) can be had for not much more than a...

    Steel or aluminium frame?

Lazarus, interesting comments and an interesting bike history! Actually, I'm struck by the fact that not many people here have ridden carbon frames. Yes, I know it's the retrobike forum and all, but retro and new can cohabit the garage quite happily! I mention this because a good carbon frame...

    Steel or aluminium frame?

stig, Practically, a good steel builder will likely be able to deliver exactly what you want. Custom is custom! However, it may be that an OTP alu or ti frame might also deliver that, but it's highly dependent on the frame design (i.e. not the material!). Finding a good OTP bike is then a...

    Steel or aluminium frame?

stig, People get hung up on materials. The reality is that different materials simply permit different trade-offs in the frame's design (key trade-offs are weight, handling, comfort). What has changed is that in 20-30years, technology and design/testing expertise has moved on. So, what you...

FS Campagnolo 8sp Chorus 135mm with Mavic Open SUP wheelset

I've got a very rare and extremely nice set of Campagnolo Chorus (I believe, though they might be record) 8speed hubs built up on Mavic Open SUP rims. Rare, because the rear hub has a 135mm axle! 32h front, 36h rear. With original campy skewers The hubs are in super condition. They date from...

Gazelle Champion Mondial A Frame 64cm

Gorgeous vintage Gazelle Champion Mondial A Frame and forks in Reynolds 531 steel in a lovely gold colour. I bought this on here a couple of years ago, and now it's time to move on (I also need the space in my cellar!). I'm told this dates from the early 80s. The A Frame models had bosses for...

WTD or FT Campagnolo 9sp - Have double want triple

Hello! I'm converting my late 90s Concorde from a double to a triple, in order to take it to the alps later this summer for some classic Alpine pass action! All of the bits are of 1997 vintage, I believe and include: Veloce pointy-top ergo levers, Veloce front mech Veloce short-cage rear...

    Back to steel?

PS The big difference isn't so much the dead weight per se, it's the extra snap you get off a lighter frame with a stiff rear triangle which makes accelerations easier.

    Back to steel?

My regular ride 2005-2007 was a Look 251, a very similar frame. Lovely ride in many ways, very smooth but it was distinctly flexy in the front end - I had very low confidence on it going fast downhill and cornering - and I ended up selling it for that reason. Actually, the later Looks of...
