Ben's cycles and the Euro-asia imports stock buy out

I still don't quite understand how they could have sat on so much inventory for so long, but let's hope it finds it's way to folks who will do great restorations for us to see and not those that hoard piles of super record boxes.

Folders! Foldable bicycles, minivelos and demontables

this was dropped off for emergency repairs at my workshop at the weekend - Dahon Dove - not really suitable for people of European stature or weight but impressively light construction. It is however very compromised in terms of clearances and general practicality - I managed to...

    Show us your... Overbury's

interesting - looks like 26" wheels would fit judging by the huge gaps between frame and wheel rim - although canti bosses wouldn't line up, it is possible to use the extenders for v brakes that brompton and other small wheel bike owners use when swapping wheel sizes etc. Might need...

2nd Merlin Prestige 1996 Build Thread

Shakedown ride round the block confirms these frames are amongst the very best - lively without being harsh, comfortable without being too relaxed, feels as tight as when it was new and good for another 30 years no doubt final build pics:

2nd Merlin Prestige 1996 Build Thread

build weekend: assembled period XT group that I reconditioned recently, plus some salvaged parts from similar age DB Axis - that have same size steerer and seat post etc. Since I am not repainted this one, makes sense to use a reconditioned set of parts. It will be 3x8...

love the little paw print on this nice bike

I am reasonably confident the courier I restored was 1987 and that had the yellow frame decals on it not like this one so 1986 is a good guess without an actual frame no. To go by

Flat but grippy (to the ground) shoes recommendation.

although I too am a fan of FiveTen , Leatt and similar, I get it about grippy soles - have you looked at some of the general purpose street/ climbing 'approach' shoes - like Rafiki Monte approach - they have super grippy sole, durable and the rubber bits will stick to the pedals like...

everyone's worst nightmare - coming to Manchester

I think they are more likely to end up in Wythenshawe - but will be used to terrorize Hale, Bowdon, Altrincham area - as we already have a large amount doing deliveries early evening - I am frightened of driving into them in the dark as they appear from nowhere and proceed up the...

2nd Merlin Prestige 1996 Build Thread

PM sent wrt frame no. Fwiw I contacted Merlin last week to see if they kept any decals, but they sold out years ago apparently. I guess we could collectively commission some remakes from Gil or similar, but for the moment I am thinking of keeping this one as-is without repainting. Cheers, P

    653 Dawes Synthesis

anything steel, 700c with canti stops and good tyre clearance gets my vote ! Slender retro tubing with gravel or CX tyres looks infinitely better than ghastly carbon nonsense and grotesque oversize alu imho. its deifnitely true that current generation also wont go for skinny tyres...

    Ti Donohue mini 'build' thread

@Woz , yes that is pretty similar, I must say I thought it was more for aesthetics than aero and maybe also a tiny bit of weight saving - since there is no need for conventional binder bolt or ugly seatpost clamp. It does allow you to see how thin the ti seat tube is against the...
