How many of these in the wild?

Was joshing with my riding mates last night about the potential removal of (or at least reduction in the allowance for) the cycle to work scheme which led to us trying to work out the most tax efficient purchase we could make. My suggestion was one of these...

    Anyone into classic furniture

Does a paperweight count? I was lucky enough to be able to be offered a site visit through a work contact when it was being refurbished (with very little regard for the Grade 2+ listing, but that's another thread!). This little chunk of Goldfinger loveliness was surplus to requirements, so...

    Anyone into classic furniture

I'm still trying to arrange an opportunity to visit: https://www.tecta.de/en/cantilever-chair-museum/ It's like some ultimate nexus of modernity, not only celebrating the Bauhaus icon that is the cantilever chair but the museum itself is in the last public commission by Peter and Alison...

    Bikes and Bridges

One of my favourites today. From a hardpack little singletrack line between 2 hedgerows and back in to another leaf covered back way, the ancient Icknield Way is (rightly) carried over both the M and A11 roads on its very own bridge. This is the southbound view (with my bike in the way).

Bikes and... wait for it, wait for it, Churches!

Swaffham Prior, that's my manor. My current favourite loop in this vicinity: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/50199495 (which is appropriately named and provides options for pictures of bikes with churches and bikes on bridges ;-))

Recommend an Alfine hubbed bike pls!

Thanks, I've seen some less than flattering comments about the build quality of the Versa shifters, are they better than a superficial bit of internetting suggests then? EDIT: Oh, by crikey! They're £200 at SJS that's eyewateringly expensive

Recommend an Alfine hubbed bike pls!

Do Alfine hubs have a specific pull ratio for changing gear? Would it be possible to use a regular 11speed Shimano 'brifter' to facilitate a drop-bar Alfine experience (or am I going to have to go DI2 to make that happen)?

Imlach's Sweaty Hippie Funk Collection, adventure bikes, rusty rats, cruisers and other alt bastardisations of bicyclery

As a long time fan of brutalist architecture this speaks (loudly) to my appreciation of the honesty of materials and design, absolutely cracking bit of design and build. Love it!

Recommend an Alfine hubbed bike pls!

Those are both lovely, thanks for the insight. My project / donor frame will arrive with me at the end of the month, so once I've had a chance to measure the rear spacing I can get to thinking about if and how I can go about this.

Recommend an Alfine hubbed bike pls!

I'm interested to hear any experience or options to retrofitting a geared hub to (something like) an early 80s roadbike frame - If I wanted to give it a go myself what would I have to look for? I'm guessing things like width of dropouts and that I need a hub that will work with rim brakes etc...

Equal parts glad and gutted to see this sold, lovely looking machine that I couldn't afford and don't have the space for!

    Bikes and Bridges

Sorry, I think I may be wrong with 'Mere Way' I think it might actually be 'Worsted St' More info here: https://frrfd.org.uk/archaeology-and-history/roman-road/ It's a great ride in either direction and you can get a full 14kms out of Cambridge off-road (it's ridable to Horseheath). It...

    Bikes and Bridges

Fantastic day out graveling yesterday, picked up at least 3 of my favourite types of bridges, the ones that are there as a planning necessity for a major rd, because it cuts through a more ancient route, for instance this is the Mere Way (AKA 'Roman Rd') being carried over the A11 at Worsted Lodge.

Good spot, it's a Tele on a Fender Champ, captured with a Sennheiser 541.

    Today's Ride

My mate and I were set to do our last RRTY 200 of the year today, we've decided to bail it (given the risks posed by the weather) and will be heading out later in the month for it. I've been writing them up as we've gone, so if you want to know how we've got on so far you can see it here...
