Ha! :) No, really. I like the Campag-esque thumb buttons, that they're 7-speed and that they're cheap. A cheap & cheerful solution for brifterising an old 7-speed bike.

My Union Rini Wagtmans against the Basilica di Sant'Andrea in Mantova. It's a big 'un.

Very nice. I have a soft spot for those Sora brifters. I prefer them over the other Shimano offerings of that period.

That's gotta count for something. ☺️ I think. Anyway, both bikes have been signed off by mrs non-fixie and she will be taking them with her to Italy for a bit of cycling. A week or so in the Lago di Garda area with the Gitane and then on to Tuscany for L'Eroica with the Cornelo. 🇮🇹🍷

Thank you. I believe the cycle to be from about 1980, so the skewers should safely pass the scrutineers. The MKS pedals were a nice swap meet buy. Even nicer when I found out later they are actually the Sylvan Touring Next model: They came with these half cages and flip tabs, which I have...

Evolving tastes, absolutely. The toe clips may prove to be too much of a stretch, though. We'll see. At least I was allowed to put them on for her to try. She came around to liking down tube shifters, so who knows?

About ten years ago, I found a "nice bike" for mrs non-fixie. Reynolds 531 sports frame, from a brand that is well-respected locally. As bought: As I built it up for a vacation in 2016: After that trip my attention shifted to other bikes and it got put away in a dark corner of the attic...

Thank you! Gitane holds a special place in my heart. Many years ago my rather dilapidated '72 Tour de France was the first bike to make me think "Wow, so this is what a nice bike feels like?"

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. The pic was about the Reynolds decal, which predates the one on the OP's bike, not the seat cluster.

It will take far fewer retries, that's for sure. :p Will be adding drop bars, new cables all around, a bell and a bottle cage. That should be it, I think.
