    ITM titanium barends

Nothing came up from googling so far, but I take it as an inexpensive long term project: when I'm bored at home, I take a look.

    Old Peugeot advice

Well, middle range 70s and 80s french road bikes may not be rare or collectible, but are quality bikes, somewhat plentiful (good for spares) and ride quite well indeed if you can get used to drop bars... no need to break the bank.

    Upgrade advice

Padded gloves do help also  You may also try flat bars, I have a typical MTB bar/stem combo on my modernish road bike. My tyres are Panaracer Race D evo 3 in 25mm, (more cushy than 23mm, still feel quite fast). I remember paying around 35eur per tyre; good tyres and tubes cost a little...

    Upgrade advice

I've got (dark) tan walls panaracers that I like. For the bars, I had some old standard alloy dropbars chopped off and mounted upside down, quite comfy and I can use period correct brake levers (looks much better IRL than in this picture).

Re: Re: Also, you often see warped frames because lowlifes try to break dlocks using the frame as a lever  Can't do that with a chain.

...mounting hardware! Partly my fault because I should have been more careful with the pictures; NOS = complete and usable for me, but not for some f*ckers... Of course, seller is giving me the silent treatment. Anyhow, can somebody help me about those? I searched for a picture of the complete...

What state is retro biking in at the moment?

Re: A small nugget of my own experience nobody asked for: I did not rode a bike for a long time, when I was a teenager it was just a cheap mean of transportation for me. 5-6 years ago at almost 35 I got back on the saddle with a new bike. When you walk in a modern bike shop with 600-800eur in...

    Work bikes

For three moths now, I commute by bike, not bothering with public transportation. No big deal but it adds up to 70km per week... I use my 1993 GT Ricochet which looks like a rolling pile of trash from afar but it is a sleeper, it actually is a good bike. The first iteration: With some custom...

What state is retro biking in at the moment?

I have a friend who owns a small bike repair shop in town, specialized in old/vintage bikes. We always say we may be the only guys who appear to actually ride vintage bike outside the heart of town. On Sundays, we never see any, only modern high end roadies, some bikepackers, and lots of modern...

KHS Montana Pro 1992 frame built into a tourer

Re: Yes, Rustol. Useful as a paint thinner. Maybe use one coat rustol, one coat varnish? Or rustol + varnish in one go. Try on some small parts first, let them outside a few weeks, you'll see how it ages... I think Rustol yellows a little, I'm not sure it is 100% neutral.

What state is retro biking in at the moment?

Seems like what happened in the collectible/"vintage" watches market in the last 15-10 years may be happening now in the bicycle world... overhyped rusty bits, jacked up prices, weapon-grade BS, fly-by-night semi-pro sellers, etc. I stopped accumulating road bikes after two because of this, I...

KHS Montana Pro 1992 frame built into a tourer

Re: A bare frame on a touring bike, subjected to rain and various nicks and small scrapes, may look cool in a Mad Max kind of way but will probably corrode fast if you do use it. For corrosion protection, I think a professional paint job is the best. For a DIY you could try some Zapon (clear...
