Help with Bike Identification - Claud Butler Elite 531

MacPhail

Retro Newbie
Hi all, I have what I believe to be a Claud Butler Elite 531 with Campagnolo Avanti groupset that I picked up and fixed from being in a pretty sorry state. I believe it to be a CB ELITE 531, based on some of my own research, the only sticker left is the one with the frame number on it, there's no serial stamped on the actual frame. The Campagnolo sticker was added by me. I've also included a picture of an Elite 531 I found during my own research. I'd appreciate any help in identifying the bike.

Welcome, MacPhail!

Can't help with the ID, I'm afraid. Good-looking bike. Intriguing, though: it seems to have a fairly long wheelbase but no provisions for mudguards.

I don’t think you need my help, other than to confirm yes it’s a 1996 (G frame number) Elite with 531c main tubes & a CroMo fork.
I think this was the last year of using Campagnolo, certainly by ‘98 it would have had Shimano kit.

My Dad just gave me his Claud Butler Elite. Mostly Campagnolo Parts. Any idea of the year? I was hoping to do L'Eroica events, but I believe its post 1987. Any help would be great. Thanks

Welcome, @Wimpawipa ! Nice gift!

With a few changes that would be eligible for L'Eroica. Add non-aero brake levers, downtube shifters and pedals with toe clips and Bob's your uncle.
