While I consider myself lucky to have a couple of mint sets of these cranks, I also have a couple of less than tidy sets I'm thinking about sorting.

I've seen a few threads on here where people have either polished the outer arms similar to the m970 ones, and some who have gone the whole hog and either resprayed or had the cranks powder coated.

I'm considering the latter options but not sure which route is best.

I'm assuming powder is a tougher finish, but am I wrong!

In either case, what colour is a good match?

Then there's the decals? Are these available and if so, are they like the originals or a sticker with a square outer? I'd like to try and get something close to original, may even do some brake levers with scuffs if it works out.

Had anyone done this? If so, how. I'm keen to waste some time trying if it's viable to do at home or farm out at a reasonable cost.

Thanks

Powdercoating is thicker, and my experience is variable as it's so dependant on the powdercoater and whether they do detail work or industrial stuff. One option might be cerakote as it's thinner and there are a lot of greys available. Possibly too expensive for cranks but worth looking at, I've used it on manifold and turbo housings a lot and it's very tough compared to either PC or paint.
