Is there a good resource to learn the hierarchy of 90s suspension forks?

Basically as the title says. I don't know a lot about 90s forks, always preferred rigid for old bikes. However, i have a GT Talera that had some ugly RST suspension forks added by the previous owner. I want to replace them with something period, but decent (for the time). Anything modern seemingly has too much travel, even at 100mm it feels a bit much for a medium size mid 90s GT.

I think you would have to do a deep dive into each manufacturer and draw up your own with product timelines. Sounds like fun....not! 😆

You will probably be looking for something with about 50-60mm so XC500 or an early Sid or something with a max of 80mm , but with alot of sag. I am no expert in these matters but i am guessing a Manitou , Bomber, or Pace are options.

Yep -- and some manufacturers seem to make things quite difficult in terms of naming etc. Not to mention OEM-only models. For example, Marzocchi. I found the incomplete lost below somewhere on the internet (maybe this very site) which might help a bit.

I had a feeling it wouldn't be straight forward lol. I shall have a look at classifieds and sold listings and whatever sells for the highest i'll assume is the decent gear haha
 
For a 93 Pace RC35, RS Mag 21 or Manitou 3/4 would be my choice. If you want something later but better than it really wants to be an early Bomber IMO.
 
Magura Quake - Air, ideally - stiff, plush and accurate. As close as you'll get to a modern fork without being...erm...modern. 75mm travel.

The downside is spares availability in the UK.
