Headset Play

👍

Gap between crown race and lower fork cup looks too big for me, and heaven forbid hope that is not a crack in the top headset part.
Sometimes what you see as the top race is little more than a plastic shield that fits over the metal race ,which is hidden

Crown race looks ok to me. It's the top lock nut part that doesn't look right. The top lock nut should be sitting pretty much flush with the top bearing race cup assuming that the steerer has that notch in it to take the lock washer that fits between the two.
The metal cups have a plastic cover moulded on top so what looks like a crack is just the joint in the plastic moulding. The joint is through the "o" in Shimano, hopefully which you can see in the photo attached.

on these headsets, the washer/ spacer between the locknut and the headset is recessed into top of the headset which is often forgotten

I think I have a complete Sport LX headset if needed

That's very kind of you. Fortunately I do have a couple of headsets which I believe are complete though after this event I will double check. Thank you again!
