A rather lovely 1960s randonneur from Louis Nouvet. Translation below.

In my possession for just under a year, I found this bike near Saint Étienne. It remained a mystery for some time, but I finally found the craftsman who made it. The salesman first told me it was a Charles Sablière, but some details didn't fit. The cable routing for the specific rear brake helped me.

The manufacturer is Louis Nouvet from Saint Étienne. There is very little information about him other than a few bikes, including this one.

Here it is in the sun, all dapper despite a few paint chips and rust in one place, but nothing serious. Modifications were made during the life of this bike, the rear derailleur and simplex shifters, the stem and the 3ttt handlebars don't seem to be original, just like the universal brake levers. Everything else has remained and is in good condition, just waiting to be ridden. The frame is 531, the frame tubes have a special shape at the bottom bracket.

I had stored this bike without really knowing how I was going to approach the subject, painting or not, finally I treated the rust and protected all that to keep the beautiful patina of the rest of the frame, the derailleurs have been replaced by Huret and brake levers by Mafac match the cantilever.

A nice save of a rare twin lateral randonneur. Translation below.

To start with, I'd like to thank Alf once again for finding me the thing, storing it, dismantling it, polishing it and transporting it to Auvergne, Yippee!
So here's a great bike for someone who weighs a hundred kilos. Maury, a Parisian craftsman about whom I haven't found much information on the web: he's made road bikes, track bikes and tandems. Not very common, no real dates, no catalogues.

Back in Essonne yesterday and a bit more of an owner's tour
Lefol on every floor. The chain guard has taken a beating and will have to be found, or not. The front headlight is wobbly
The luggage rack is a bit of a mess, but the parcel rack is intact.
View of the cockpit: a plastic brake lever that I have in stock, and an ugly bell that will be replaced. The stem is known to all and a Velox handlebar cap is missing.

Just look at that chain line! I'm lucky enough to have 4 sprockets behind me, managed by this Cyclo double-cable derailleur.
The double chainring is managed by a Simplex derailleur. Rosa chainrings and Professional cranks
I'm not familiar with the use of these strange nuts for fixing the luggage rack (To be used with a strap with hooks or eyelets GIGFY)

The dynamo is nice. The lettering on the left-hand side in the direction of travel is almost intact.
I don't think I'm the only one here who gets excited at the arrival of a new bike. So I used the excuse of going to clean up the hunting chart adorning the truck's windscreen after 450 kilometers to load the machine.

Someone on the forum had posted that he was carrying out a primary cleaning with a high-pressure washer. Some will say it's heresy, but I didn't have much to lose and took photos of the lettering with a real camera. So here's the result I wasn't expecting at all.
In fact, I only used the product to clean the rims, a little dab everywhere, I let it work while I managed the truck, then I came back to the frame in rinsing mode. Well, it didn't work a miracle, the paint had taken a beating but the colour change was obvious.

Back home, change the saddle, two Mafac cantis at the rear, a piece of cable, a copious spraying of the transmission with WD40, inflate the tyres and roll my baby.

The colour is a bit like the very old Bianchi, before the celestial green we know today. It's ‘clean’ but the paint is very rough to the touch. I'm going to try the Glanzol with 0000 steel wool without pressing too hard on the lettering.

Well, there'll be lots of things to go over and parts to find.
Tonight, after work, I'm going to present the baby to my friend. Thanks for reading and have a good day!
