1981 Nishiki Master - Randonneur build

Now I just have to decide on what colour handlebar tape to pick. Maybe cotton bar tape in brown/grey/tan?
May sound strange, but the Cinelli ‘glow in the dark’ C Ribbon would go really well with those tyres and the rest of the colour scheme - it is a weird kind of off white in daylight.

First test ride. The bike rides really well and that 24-42 seems to be enough to go up the biggest "hill" I would normally encounter here. Forgot the rear brake was still open after taking the rear wheel out and the qr was not tight enough so the wheel jumped forward and locked up. Good thing the tires are so big and I was going slowly so nothing bad really happened😁 After tightening those and the downtube shifters I did a 10km trip.

Not that hill...

Little "gravel" riding or whatever cycling in 2" mud is.

Tires are big enough to roll over large roots.

Use that bike stand for everything?

Grey cotton tape with shellac could work. Maxy cranks also cool and a useful 110 BCD? Is that a Superbe rear mech? Classy. An earlier cyclone would also slap.
I've been wanting to try shellac but can't justify the cost of 15€ per handlebar just for the shellac alone.
Yes those are 110 bcd. It's a Alpha 5000 that lost its print when I cleaned it so I just went on and tried to give it a brushed finish with brown scotch-brite. Design is similar to Ole and Cyclone 7000.

Pricey and I don't like the neon green glow that much. But I did find locally 25mm black webbing/strapping with reflective stripe🤔

Local fabrics suplier has cotton webbing/strapping in 1.4 x 25mm, 2x25, 2x30, 2.6x25 all for 1.20€ per meter, 1.2x20 cotton and 20/25mm polypropylene for 0.80€ for meter so I might buy from there and try to diy some thicker handlebar tape or just try to wrap it without any adhesive so that when it gets dirty I can unwrap it and wash it. At 1.2€ 5 meters would cost 6€ and at 0.8€ - 4€ per handlebar. Newbaum would be 20€ for two rolls, Tressostar is 6.4€ for two and Velo Oranges Comfy Cotton bar tape is 15€ for 4m...

The bike has been done for almost a month now, but haven't gotten the time to take it for a longer ride. I usually need to do around 25km to see if a bike/position really suits me for longer riding, so I did about 20km's and it felt a bit cramped so I'll be swapping the stem from a 70mm to a 100mm one and the bars from Sakae Road Champion Japan to the England ones because those have less drop.

Sadly alloy stems with the "Cinelli 1A look" are hard to come by in longer sizes.

The stem is from a late 80s Crescent and I'd quess it was propably painted black at the Cresent factory. I think they bought a bunch of second quality stems as the finish under the paint, in my eyes, was not on par with the plain, cast, side logo SR stems
I scrubbed the paint off, wet sanded it and then did a quick polish.
