Losing my shit!

Ive come on here to vent! I just got my hands on a 90s Stumpjumer adorned with loads of lovely bits, but the bottom bracket is holding on like you would not believe, I can’t bolt the tool in place cos the thread in the tapered bit is fucked, and the socket I have is too deep for the job really. I’m sweating my cods off and I’ve managed one full turn I reckon.!

Make sure your turning it the right way! The threads are opposite on opposing sides. From google:

"The common threading for bottom bracket shells is called “English.” The left-side cup is a right-hand thread direction, which tightens clockwise and removes counterclockwise. The right-side (drive-side) thread is a left-hand thread, which tightens counterclockwise and loosen clockwise."

Take a step back for a minute or two. Can you soak it overnight and get hold of a better socket?
Don't rush in with too much brute force (that's not working) and make it worse*

*been there,done that 🙃

It’s defo going the right way, the main problem is trying to keep the BB tool in place while I administer the breaker bar. Normally I’d use a washer and bolt to keep it in. I’ve soaked it in RP 90 so will have to wait now. Hopefully it’ll loosen so I can use regular ratchet and hold it in by hand.
