So who ever? did this

I just stripped down a claud butler and the Montana unicrown suspension fork needed to be removed as naturally it had seized... Wierdly it had a few sets of headset cups in it..... 1 inch cups sat in a 1-1/8 set of cups to accomodate a 1inch
fork...... They weren't even in straight!

So .... Was this common practice cos it scares me!

I had reducer cups put in a 1991 Muddy Fox Alu Pro to reduce it from 1 1/4 to 1 1/8 so it could fit a suspension fork in the early 90's. Suspension forks with 1 1/4 steerer tubes were hard to find then. But I have no idea why a 1 1/8 would be reduced to 1' as 1 1/8 quickly became the most common size for steerers on sus forks in the 90's (at least from about 92 onward). Maybe they got the fork for free and wanted to fit it.

Yuk.... what’s that frame? Looks suspiciously like a 1992 Cape Wrath.,..

Certainly Billy the bodger at work there... I as a bicycle mechanic would have never done anything as dangerous....

I’ve seen it done, did it also have 2 crown races on the forks?
10/10 for ingenuity.
1/10 for execution.
