Finished - my Pinarello Banesto

Dirt Disciple
It took me a few months to get this finished. It's not a wall queen as I have used it already and intend to continue to use it for short sportives or social rides. Especially once I have a Banesto jersey to go with it.

Purchased from Ebay as you see it - The only parts I have replaced are tyres, cables, hoods, tape, bottle cage, pedals, chain & cassette. The Selle San Marco Concor saddle I suppose was added by the previous owner as it looks unused. It had white Vittoria Zafiros which had to go.

The frame and fork (which have matching serial numbers) use Oria ML34 tubing. I thought it important to keep the original paint so I have replaced most of the decals and relacquered. Only the top tube Pinarello decal isn't really correct but I can live with it for now. The chrome is near perfect.

The bike was presumably an entry level version as it has a Veloce groupset, only an Athena seatpost was added at some time. I did think about replacing everything with Record parts, but I much prefer the look of the monoplaner brakes, and think it would be a shame to split the complete gruppo (including BB and headset) and sell off.

Of course the Shamals are not original but I like them despite being quite heavy and they are of the period. Also of the period (I believe, please correct me) are the Cinelli Contact bars. I like modern ergo bars so decided to keep them. I do need a longer stem though (current is a 80mm Cinelli XA).

Forgive me for pinching dg01 wording, but I agree...

'That, sir, is a thing of beauty. Like that a lot.'

Re:

That's a very nice purchase and a rare find!

It's not low end (that was the "replica" model): Oria ML 34 was the top end "Team" frame tubing and dates from 1993. The spec of the time was 8 speed Record Groupo with Cinelli XA stem and handlebars. Selle San Marco Titanio saddle.

Good job on the tyres.

Here's one you can base the spec on for sure! (shame it's not mine)
