I'm feeling really fit at the moment, but once you know the South Downs Way you know how many horrible climbs there - in many ways ignorance is bliss.

I was. And my friend Martin in the jersey with the chequered band. It was tough - more mentally than physically for me.

The last leg of the South Downs Way double in three days. Lewes to Eastbourne and back in very windy conditions. Twelve started out, only two completed it all. It had to be done!

Technically, Friday's and yesterday's rides. Did the South Downs Way from Lewes to Winchester and back with a few friends. Got the small matter of Lewes to Eastbourne and back today to complete the SDW double over three days. I love this photo. That me stuffing my chops in the foreground.

My favourite riding partner recently shared his carefully distilled wisdom with me. I quote: "Whenever I don’t ride the bike I feel shit then when I do I don’t feel shit" An elegant summary.

The weather has changed here. The glorious spring has temporarily gone and left wet and windy in its wake. A group of us are aiming to do the South Downs Way in both directions over three days from Friday to Sunday next week. I really hope the weather improves.

Technically, and actually, last night's ride. Things might be (mostly) dry here, but they are not smooth. A friend described the lush-looking field we crossed as being like hoof prints set in concrete covered in grass. Spot on. Corrugation Chicken!

The bridleways are disappearing!

The sun is still shining in Sussex too. Trip to join the Surfers Against Sewage and a spin across the Downs. Lovely.

Whoa, careful there. Suspension I could maybe get used to. Rapid Rise definitely not.
