98+ BoTM 98+ Bike of The Month May 2025 - Now taking entries

Yeah. Come on people. Place and show what you have - as long as it is not a crime against humanity. That would disgust. Obviously. Have some standards. Get your beauties photographed and presented with a little write up.

    Any idea’s what this is?

My initial thought too closer to 1920 or so, but I don't know what it is. Suspect many parts are not original.

    Floppy Derailleur Syndrome

Yes. You could potentially temporally screw the cage down to some wood and put that in the bench vice for the third hand. I'm reasonably sure one or two plastic wedges in the spring would work well. Once the spring is engaged a zip tie can help keep it altogether while you faff screwing it all...

    Floppy Derailleur Syndrome

Contact NASA to loan out a gravity free space? I'm not familiar with type of mech, but I wouldn't mess with JB weld there. You could try having the cage flat between two pieces of wood, and then turn the mech body and slamming it down after the stop - at least gravity is working for you in...

    Seat post puzzle

As said above - looks very Airborne / Van Nicholas. +1 a bit of a faff. Fiddled with one of these many years ago and seem to remember another trick was to revolve the saddle a quarter turn so the top barrel portion can raise higher in the open clamp and just slide out off the saddle rails...

    What Happened to Campagnolo?

Personally, I see no interest in SRAM nor Shimano (while well capable) to wipe out Campagnolo from the face of the planet. There are patents running out, there is still on the very face of it a pitiful but niche component manufacture company highly competent with innovation and a following to...

Who rode a gas-pipe bike in the 70s?

Thing is - of a certain age, we probably all had gas pipes to start with. Fair enough cast offs and "hand me downs" etc. Think I had my first 2nd hand Cro-Mo MTB around the late 80s. Later was a second hand AL Kona which was equally thrashed. It's sort of when you get the first job and some...

Mongoose titanium 1999 with a Tomac 1989 twist

One photo of the BB shell would confirm that, but I kind of expect it is a very very firm NO. Who made the Saracen Ti frames probably deserves a separate post. Most likely far east or UK homegrown via Raleigh.

What are these worth? Brian rourke & Alan vintage bikes

@SFP Apples and pears. For one, the BR is handbuilt unique and would have most certainly been made to measure with everything that entails. The other is - the Generalised Stumpy - while potentially desirable - banged out in (unknown) masses overseas with no name attached to it bar the decal.

What are these worth? Brian rourke & Alan vintage bikes

Paul Washington being the builder. For sure considering the period. Yes. Hand built like the pro-stuff of the period for Moducel, ANC team who rode BR instead of the sponsored Pugs in the TdF and supplied numerous UK national champions. A great period of BR bikes founded on every definition of...

What are these worth? Brian rourke & Alan vintage bikes

EDIT: Simplex downtube retrofiction levers on the BR would also sell for an admirable amount.

What are these worth? Brian rourke & Alan vintage bikes

Agree. The BR should be broken up and a sale for frame + forks + headset only. Remove the rest. Another sale for what does appear a sought after Race Face chainset, especially with the BB if it is a Race Face. The wheelset is "whatever" at about 50+ GBP or so opening price, but if the hubs...

What are these worth? Brian rourke & Alan vintage bikes

They are both lovely great bikes. - The BR looks in great shape with all the period top class chroming front and rear. - The Alan early Carbon with the Campag can be sought after. Even as is. It's hard to give a price in today's environment. This thread sadly won't get you much input. For...
