If it makes it more tempting. When i had this built up as a singlespeed with fairly standard parts, nothing too exotic. It weighed in at just a smidge over 20lbs with considerable room for improvement.
Time has come to sell my trusty kilauea frame which has served me well as a single speed and London commuter for the last 1.5 years. It's an 18" 1993 model that could do with a little tender loving care and a respray to bring it back to full glory. Although it does have the odd scratch, cable...
I did it on Sunday the 27th on a hired 20kg Scott Gambler seemingly set up for someone twice my weight and with brakes that constantly sounded like Chewbacca and smelt like an over used scalextric set.
It was a truly horrible experience. 68km on a massively heavy downhill bike which wasn’t...
Is ammonia supposed to be good for steel frames with aluminium parts stuck in them? Does it have any effect on steel parts stuck in steel frames?
My LBS has been trying to get my bottom bracket out for a while now by drowning it in ammonia every once in a while but with no luck. I’m assuming...
In terms of geometry it appears to be very similar to my cotic soul with 130mm forks which is roughly 69 degree head angle and a seat angle of 72ish. Probably not what joe murray had in mind when he designed it. But i’ll give it a go before i bash the project 2’s back on. It has definitely...
Hello all i've got a couple of questions regarding my 1993 kilauea (roughly 17inch if that makes a difference).
First off does anyone have any idea what size seat post i should be using? unfortunately i can't measure the old one as it uses a spacer.
Secondly and probably more importantly...
I've have some 2.0 inch larssen TT's and they are great for dry dusty trails but clog up really quickly and turn to slicks as soon as it gets muddy. which can prove eventful.
I had the flyweight 330's on my kona for a few months and they were terrible. No grip and in about 2 months i had 10 puntures. I now use conti speed kings 2.3 on the front and 2.1 on the back and i've had no problems what so ever. A little heavier but the difference in grip is amazing.
Thanks everyone
I certainly don't have legs like teak more like bread sticks so I should probably look at a slightly higher gear as this is going to become my main bike until i can persuade my girlfriend that I need a full susser.
Just one more question though a friend has just come and...
Hello all
Not a particularly retro question but you all seem quite knowledgeable so here goes.
I’m looking at putting gears back on my single speed Kona Kilauea and I want to keep the powerful feel of a single speed but with a bit more range so i’m looking at a 9 speed road set up on...
I'm doing it in a team of 4. so far it's looking like a fairly shoddy team. all 4 never raced. and fitness wise there is: Me 2 mile comute every day and the occasional ride at weekends. one bloke who has never ridden off road before, another who is fit for running but the last time i cycled with...
