1981/2 Dawes Galaxy large 60cm frame and forks. Reynolds 531 tubes. Reconditioned bottom bracket and headset. Some small dents in the seat tube due to over enthusiastic removal of a stuck seatpost. Needs paint or leave ratty. £40 plus post and packing or collect from Southampton.
Few more jobs ticked off the Clements/Galaxy hybrid. I've ditched the Galaxy Suntour VX friction mech and fitted a Shimano MT60 I had in my spares box and new index 6 speed cassette and shifters. Just the chain and cables to do now. I'm not bothering with mudguards. I'll either just ride it...
Thank you for the offer but I've already bought a 610 front brake and changed the mounting bolt. Problem now sorted although the pads are up as far as the can go in the slots. Luckily they make full contact with the rim.
It would seem that all the Wienmann brake pairs on ebay are a 610 and 750 combination. Maybe it was for fitting mudguards?
I measured the rear brake mounts on both frames and there is a one inch difference. Rather annoyingly I can't fit the rear mudguard either as it's hard against the wheel...
This is possibly a really dumb question.
I started bolting the Galaxy parts onto my Clements Frameset. All was going well until I got to the back of the bike.
The Dawes has Weinmann Vainqueur 610 and 750 centre pull brakes. The front is fine but the rear brake bridge seems closer to the...
Bit of me time this morning so I stripped the Dawes. I couldn't resist loosely putting some parts onto the Clements to get an idea of how it will look. The tap and die set has been a worthwhile purchase all the frame threads have been chased out.
Waiting for a rear cable guide to arrive...
Picked the frame up from the powder coaters this morning. Happy with the result. Applied the Reynolds decals using Peachys wet on wet technique which made life easier.
I might not bother with any downtube decals. It doesn't seem right using the old style from the '40s on an 1980s bike...
The powder coaters are super busy so I won't have the frame back until next week at the earliest. In the meantime seeing as I was a Graphic Designer in a former life I thought I'd have a bash at recreating the logos. Still need some tweaking.
Originally I wasn't going to bother and just...
There's no serial number anywhere on the frame. That's what made me wonder if it's a generic Tawain frame. The Reynolds decals date it from 1982 to 1989. It would be good if it was something more exotic made in Europe, but I doubt it. At least it is Reynolds 531 Frame and Forks with some...
As mentioned I've got this 53cm Clements 531 frame. The plan is to swap the parts over from my Galaxy which at 60cm is way too big. Plus some possible upgrades. The frame is with my local bike repairers have a stubborn BB cup removed because I don't have the right tool.
I've discovered the BB...
Next decision do I keep non indexed or change to indexed gears? I'm going to have to get different shifters because of the braze on bosses and I've got a MT60 derailleur in my stash as well as a Suntour XCE derailleur and 7 speed freewheel.
