Re:
Hi matey
Thanks for the recommendations. Unlike the 90 Cinder Cone, I'm not bothered about period correctness for this 01 Cone - that's why I had your Mag21's for the former.
I've been watching a number of these on good ol' fleebay (and some others besides) but can you give a relative...
Can anyone recommend a good modern fork for my 2001 Cinder Cone build? I'm at the start of the project with just the frame right now so it's a blank canvas. I'm looking for something kind of up to date, post mount (or IS at a push) but I don't have a huge budget (maybe £150 absolute max). It'll...
Re:
Guys, slight apology from me...
The image of the Manitou FS in my earlier post turns out to not be the one I owned, I'm afraid. Some judicious research has shown that that FS is (probably) a different build. Seeing it on Instagram recently with a link to a previous owner prompted me to PM...
Re:
Yep the current tyres will be going in the bin and I'm thinking Panaracer Smoke for the back. Not sure what I'll put on the front. Any suggestions?
One of our colleagues on the forum has already PM'd me about a Mag21 fork he can restore and refresh for me so I'll go for that. But I'll...
Re:
You're not far off. It was up for £340 and I got it at £300. Well, technically my wife did - it was a birthday gift so didn't cost me a penny! :D
I figured these old Cones are very rare, especially in such good original condition. It was the quality of the paint that did it for me. I'm...
Re:
Thanks for all the advice, folks. Looks like I have a lot of research and ebay work to be doing in the next couple of weeks!
I'll also take a look see which other members are in this neck of the woods and get along to a ride or two.
For those interested, here's the ebay link to the 1990...
Re:
The Manitou FS is long gone I'm afraid - sold back in 2005 if I remember correctly. You're right, the frame tubes were on the thin side so it wouldn't surprise me if it'd given up the ghost by now. It was an awesome ride though.
Interesting feedback from SP, I don't recall the Cone...
Re:
I'll be picking the bike up Thursday this week so will put some images up over the weekend.
Not sure yet of the steerer length, I'll be doing some dismantling in the coming days to figure that out. The original headset on the '90 Cinder Cone was 1" which I think limits my choice of fork. A...
Hi everyone. Newbie member just getting back into mountain biking after a 15 year layoff, during which time I've been focussed on powered two wheelers.
I've managed to source a 1990 Cinder Cone in original spec and A1 condition (thanks ebay) - I owned one back in the day and lusted for another...
