Thanks - yes, the design was mid-late 80's but it was the one at the start of the thread - thought these were later but didn't know

I have a rather nice pair of Marzocchi XC700 that, although they are lovely, I would like to have in black. Is paint the answer? Or anodising? Is it a foolish endeavour? Is dinner ready? All commentary appreciated...

I have a pair with a fitted shim and a pair without, which must be the earlier ones.
