Bid on a matching Nitto stem but no luck this time. There aren’t any quality 25.4 drop bars in stock in continental Europe anyway. So bigger volume tires with some tread and no further changes in the near future. The Compass were actually only 40 mm wide, 48 will be a big step regarding comfort...

Some impressions of the completed build in action: Best brakes I’ve had so far on a drop bar bike, in terms of classic rim brakes. You can’t go more than 35 km/h with 40/28 but I never do that apart from down the hills. Next investment is probably in bars with a little less reach and 48-50 mm...

80 km test ride with my recently acquired Bike-tech #2. Even warm enough for shorts today :D

RD is a 730 XT, a joy to setup, my 9-speed recently almost made me mad. The frame has a pulley at the seat tube for down pull derailleurs, but my 7 and 9 speed Ultegra have both the bolting in the wrong place and they don't work, so I will use the top pull DX instead, also fits color wise...

So these are the brakes I could have fitted XT 734 or 739, which are more shiny, but it doesn't work out with my front rack and I am not out for period build 🤷‍♂️

Thank you ;) The frame is standing in the basement, no decision made yet, what I will do with it. I don't want to hoard too many bikes and will move over some of the parts to the bike-tech.

So I've made a little "tool" to apply the stickers and it starts to look like bike again

My homemade decals have arrived. I'm already shaky only looking at them, hopefully I'm not messing things up ;)

I won't repaint the frame, just touch it up for the time being but it will get some new decals I'm still working on. I will also stick with the XT 770 V's and therefore already acquired some Tektro RL520 levers. So far so good 😃

Luckily I've found an original Ritchey Kalloy post in 26.6, fitted was a too short 26.8 mm. Stem is a no name, maybe the same cheap Taiwanese "Zoom" like the drop bars I've bought. Headset is a Tange Aluminum cartridge, nothing wrong with it.

But the reason I picked it is it's short 56 cm top tube and it's outstanding room for tires. I could easily fit 50 mm tires, these are just 44 mm Compass and because I'm a drop bars guy 🤷‍♂️
