My first thought was that it might be an SR Sakae Litage, but a quick Google suggests it isn't. Still, a slow process of elimination might get you somewhere.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to know the story. I have a Roberts' BD that's going to need a repaint at some point, and it'd be good to know about any potential pitfalls.
I too had a pair of these, BITD, my first SPD shoes. I really wanted the Alpinestars splatter shoes but couldn't justify the cost, so settled for the Caratti option.
I had a day out in Hastings, East Sussex, last week and during my wandering around there I can across a slightly tatty-looking Raleigh Pioneer, complete with a Flexstem for just £40. Oh and there were a spare pair of tyres hanging off the bike too.
If anyone is interested it's in the second-hand...
If you're using the hubs on a steel frame I wouldn't worry about hanging the spacing, just run as they are.
I used to have a steel cross frame that I built spaced at 132mm across the dropouts so that I could run either road (130mm) or MTB (135mm) hubs.
Interesting to see a non-splatter Kona from that time period get the splatter treatment. My first 'proper' MTB after a Raleigh Maverick was this generation Lavadome. It would originally have had a Suntour X1 groupset with Kona finishing kit.
I remember both. I bought a single speeded steel frame from Vince at Recycle. I've still got the Hope SS hub I bought at the same time.
One of the staff members there was a guy called Alex and he had previously been a Saturday boy at On Your Bike at London Bridge when I was a staffer there in...
First up is a Swobo long sleeve merino wool jersey. This is an authentic San Francisco made jersey, which measures approx 19in armpit to armpit across the chest and is now way too small for me. £20 and its yours including postage. SOLD
Next up is a Pearl Izumi western-style shirt. Says it's a...
I had a pair built onto XT hubs back in the early-90s. As wheelset they were okay but it was a right pain in the a**e trying to get a tyre off to fix a puncture. When I had the wheels rebuilt in the mid-90s with Campag Stenho (?) rims the difference was like night and day. I went from breaking...
This is the internet and I fully expect everyone to wade in with their experiences which will happily contradict each other. Or am I simply thinking of what would happen if you asked this on STW? ;-)
