Chas Roberts bike identification help needed please.

I would guess Master Pro = race; Clubman = touring; and Audax = all round?

Chas Roberts bike identification help needed please.

That’s nice of them to leave that there. But, you know, there probably won’t be a model name or type. It would most likely have been custom made for the customer. It looks like an ‘all round’ geometry. Not exactly steep angles or short wheelbase and plenty of room for mudguards and a rack...

    Harry Hall help please!

Re: Don't see any reason why it wouldn't be a Harry Hall - decals and paint are clearly pretty old and there wouldn't be any reason to put fake ones on would there? But, just a couple of points: 1. I believe that Harry Hall did build their own frames, but I'm also pretty sure that they...

Re: For what it's worth, Jack Taylor's had their serial numbers on LH rear dropouts, but number 290 would maybe be too early? Possibly pre-war even?

Bike info from very old photos?

Yes of course - I know you're right, but I use the term 'head badge' very generally to just mean the logo/crest on the head tube! Looks like a stunning collection of bikes by the way.

Bike info from very old photos?

Thanks for the comments & pm's. (Nice link too). There could be some mileage in the Hobbs idea - it's certainly the right shape headbadge & I've not seen any images of closer looking badges. Dates also seem about right. Hobbs were either London or Essex, yes? Does that mean they were only sold...

    1" carbon forks upgrade advice

Are you sure on that weight? I couldn't see published weight for 'Minimal' when I was shopping around - but 360g are normally about £500 not £160! If so, great, but it's more likely 485-500g (hence saving of 150g on decent steel fork). It's a lovely looking fork whichever way - one of the nicest...

    1" carbon forks upgrade advice

You don't necessarily save loads of weight - I put 1" carbons on my Donahue - threadless, with ahead stem & shim - will try & load some pics later... Maybe saves 150g or thereabouts (or about 1/10th of a full water bottle)! I'm really happy with the ride, but I was before too - I only really...

Bike info from very old photos?

Thanks for the comments, Wow - 10 speed in 1949 - that's brilliant! I know my Dad & his friends used to walk up quite a few hills! Again - don't know if it was the norm - but rather than using panniers, they toured with just a saddle bag, but would have arranged to have clothes parcels posted in...

Bike info from very old photos?

Found some old pics here of my Dad's bike: I think the pics are from the end of the 1950's, but could be a few years either side. I believe it to have been a fixed gear with a front brake & used for touring - would that have been a common set up prior to dérailleurs? Someone told they remember...

Top notch all round - but especially loving Gridno27's Carrera & its perfect little seat cluster with the aero post & super sleek stays... Can even forgive the bar tape!
