We've seen all sorts of contraptions at some of the Tandem Club events. Broom handles down each side and even a proper child car seat fitted in place of a rear saddle.
My parents have a Bike Friday Tandem, which all the grandchildren have been on at some stage.

We were on a Dawes Ladyback with Kiddie crank fitted. The handlebars had reversed bar ends fitted, too, so she could reach.
