1960 Peugeot PX10 rim mystery..... SOLVED

Re: 1960 Peugeot PX10 rim mystery. Yes, those are the decals. And yes, the early versions of these rims had the dimpled brake surfaces, I think up to c. 1967. I had a PX-10 identical to this one. Peter Kohler Washington DC USA

1960 Peugeot PX10 rim mystery..... SOLVED

Re: Not too mysterious.... looks like the original Mavic Monthlery rims with the remains of the original Mavic transfer. This rim was introduced in 1959 I believe so it was top of the line and perfect for the PX-10 which used these rims up to the early 1970s. Peter Kohler Washington DC USA

"New & Improved" Raleigh Lenton article

Re: Many thanks, Keith for the additional details on Reg Harris' Lenton. These "Picture Post" photos are the only reasonably detailed ones I've found and whilst I did point out the replacement brakeset, I will update with the other amendments. I do appreciate the utter disdain these Raleighs...

New Article Published: Raleigh Club Cycles 1934-1942

I have published a new article on my On the Drops blog site: "In Fast Company: Raleigh Club Cycles 1934-1942" https://on-the-drops.blogspot.com/2020/ ... ycles.html This covers the Raleigh and Humber club cycles of this period, considered to be a heyday of both Raleigh as a company and of...

Ah, so I think it maybe a "Altec". Another French take on bonded Duralinox and was marketed by Stronglight in the early to mid 80s. Somewhat rare and certainly unusual but there is one on eBay presently: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-ALTEC- ... 4267228223 I guess I should add a section to...

New Article Published "Light & Legendary: VITUS 979"

That sounds like a Vitus 992 model dating from 1992-96. But maybe I am misinterpreting your description. These had aero profiled tubes and larger ovalised ends to give a stiffer frame from the earlier "Losange" and "Arcor" models. The headset was integral to the head tube as well. The 992...

    1986 La Vie Claire 753

Exceptional. And properly period correct from a great period in the pro peloton. One assumes you have taken as much time and effort to procure just the right enormous shield sunglasses to wear when riding this beauty. Peter Kohler Washington DC USA

    c. 1987 Mécacycle «Chrono»

It's both... 75 deg head angle and sloping aero profile Atax stem. The 'bars are rare... I didn't even know Philippe made aero type 'bars until I found these on eBay (and ordered another pair for my "what if" Vitus 979 Losange project). I wanted a black anodised version of the stem but finding...

Superb! Never seen this one before and it will be devoured and, with your permission, used in my article. Let me have a real name to credit it unless you rather not. And you may e-mail it to me privately if you prefer. But many thanks for this... it's one of the best (and earliest) Vitus 979...

    c. 1987 Mécacycle «Chrono»

I have completed the restoration of a 1987 Mécacycle «Chrono». Mécacycle, one of the last new quality French cycle firms founded (in St. Etienne) is most famous for its split seat tube "Turbo" model and its pioneering MTB bikes. The model here, the Chrono, was a conventional frame for time...

Peugeot Vitus 979 Build - Arrested Development.

Yes, that happens a lot.... these grub screws are best left in place. They are really tricky in re-inserting and finding the thread straight. So hopefully Dave can set this right for you. There are replacements for these and I am not sure if the issue is with the reproductions or the originals...

    Lotus Steel Bikes 1980-90

Founded in 1979 by Sidney Star, Lotus featured a complete line of lightweight cycles made in Japan by the well-established (dating to 1905) Tsunoda Industries, one of the country’s largest contract builders. Lotus was more than a marketing outfit and Star worked closely with Tsunoda, Pacific...
