The headset fitted is a Richey Logic - which I suspect is the original specification - hence factory fitted. Good point about the top cap ,as it is plastic and is quite flexible, so I will order a metal one and give that a try with a spacer first !

Hi All I'm having to tighten the headset on my 1999 Marin Bolinas Ridge every couple of rides. I have replaced the bearing ,but still not much better. I suspect the cups are worn out. Can anyone please recommend a reasonable price replacement, it doesn't have to be period . It's threadless but...

From a bit of interweb research - FO = Factory origin 1 = Model 9 = Year J = Frame size So i'm a bit more positive its a 1999 anyone agree ?

Thanks for the info - i have had a look at bikepedia & agree , only 1999 specs that colour . The component spec is slighty different to mine , however they looks like US specifications - so UK could vary. I have the stamped numbers from the bottom shell also - F019JSD169 ?
