Good quality cables, very very cheap. Cheers!

    Cables

Cool, I have a bike with a 56cm frame - would two meters of cable for outers and inners be enough for front and rear brakes? If I put an order in how would you like to be paid? Is paypal OK?

    Cables

Hi, Those are good prices! Can you get white outer brake/gear cables? Also how do I know what size ferule I need? I have never seen them with different sizes before, I normally just buy the clarks universal brake cables and these have been fine .

    Chain Slipping

I'm not sure, but looking at some pictures it does look like it could have been a mailard jobby. The hubs are Campagnolo and the bike is from around 1980/1981 if that gives any clues? It certainly had any more grooves than modern ones. Both shops said it was a rather old style which I suppose...

    Chain Slipping

Well I have replaced the block and chain. The old block needed to be broken to be removed as neither Halfords or Evans had the tight tool! Everything seems to be OK now, we will wait and see. Thanks for everyone's help, looks like Shaun's original diagnosis was correct!

Thanks for the info. My local Evans and Halfords are both pretty friendly I have used their tools in store before so should be fine. The only independant store near me is really bad unfortunately.

I know I don't have the right tool, but hope Halfords will. What is the difference between a block and casette? This is what they have in Halfords... http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165540 Will this do the job?

    Chain Slipping

Well the slipping is still there but only on the 2nd highest cog as far as I can tell so I will replace the cassette and chain tomorrow and see if that improves things. On another note, the chain came off one of the jockey wheels today! It happened after I threw it into top gear. Had a look...

    Chain Slipping

Yes the chainset and derailleurs are Shimano 600. I took the bike to Halfords in the end (only because I passed it on route) and they agreed the chain and cassette looked to be in good condition as far as they could tell. But they had a look at the chainring and it was very wobbly! The...

    Chain Slipping

I have discovered the (beautiful) simplicity of friction gears as I had to set them up. When I picked the bike up I couldn't reach the highest gear on the rear sprocket and I kept throwing the chain into the spokes when going to the lowest gear! There are some pictures here...

    Chain Slipping

Thanks for your reply midlife. I think I will take it to my local evans tomorrow and get them to give it a quick look. Definitely not something caused by poor gear changing technique then?

    Chain Slipping

Hi everyone, I recently bought a Gazelle Champion in fairly good condition but I have noticed that under heavy load the chain occasionally slips. I am completely new to gears having been a single speeder for a long time, and this bike has friction downtube shifters which take a bit of...
