Sorry Andy - they are in fact 36's anyway. One of them has 32 in blue marker pen written on it - which is why I was confused, but it is 36. Almost all of my many wheels are either 36's or 28's - funnily enough only our tandem has 32 hole rims!

I cannot check now, but I think I have an unused pair of 32 hole Mavic sprint rims, silver - might be Argent 10.... If I remember the spoke reinforcing grommets are a bit tarnished

I think it’s a 1981 frame and the thinking is that it’s an unusual cable routing for the year. Until I get the fork out I cannot be certain of the fork number, but I’ve no reason to think it’s all anything other than original. I’ve owned it for about 30 years so it was not really that old when...

I'm not sure if it is the most accurate indicator of age, but the SA hub gears have the year of manufacture stamped into the outer body - so if the hub is original it might give a clue.

A great project! Reminded me very much of my first bike which was very similar to yours but was a Team Raleigh Europa. It was 1973, cost £39 from Halfords, and differed mainly in having a plastic Simplex rear mech, shortie mudguards, GB synchro dual-pivot brakes, and a horrible plastic saddle...

Three more pictures - actually looking at the pictures with a macro lens really does make the whole thing look worse than with my naked eye. I think it's going to need to be stripped.

Quite - my worry too. The only place I think it's potentially an issue is the top of the top tube near the TEAM decal. There is some pitting there, and I do believe some of the 753 frames were drawn to only 0.3mm at that location. Luckily I'm a very smooth rider and lack the power I used to...

This is part of my conundrum - do I preserve it as it is - or strip and re-paint? If I preserve it - it will need sealing to prevent rust spreading - though I could of course touch up (quite a lot) the bare metal and head tube. It would be lovely re-finished, but not then original.... Plus if...
