Update: i got a master PIU with precisa forks, fitted it up with new shimano 105 (but with a tiagra crankset - im not rich), fulcrum wheels, a quill stem adapter and ritchey classic high polish silver hardware and sele italia seat and tape. I don't like the bottle cages and will get silver ones...

Re: Somehow i doubt a Master will be inferior to what my local frame builder will cobble together with stock round oversized tubing and a tape measure. With the correct sized stem and frame (57cm+80mm), i would imagine the master would be much better than any bog standard tubeset bospoke frame...

Re: Many of the bikes that won the TDF were custom and some even rebadged. So similar frames commercially available at the time, to those which appeared to be in the TDF, were often not the same thing at all. Indurain for example did not ride actual Pinarellos - they were rebadged.
