Just had forgotten about the retrobike account. I picked up an 88 Carbontech 3000 in 2012 and then just kept finding and rebuilding more of these lugged carbon frames. I've posted a couple of them over the last few years now.
Thanks! I love working on them all which is why I keep getting more.
Congrats on the new frame, should be a fun build. Its no trouble at all to measure it, I just went and checked and its exactly 150mm for my size 56 frame.
I'm not 100% certain of the rake of the fork but I think its either...
Re: Re:
My understanding is that the Super Road was a full build you could buy but the frame itself was also available on its own. I've never actually seen one of the Super Road builds outside this catalog, all the images I've seen of these frames are just of the frame itself or frame up...
Dura Ace 7400 8spd with STI shifters was available until 1996 so the frame and groupset match. 7700 with 9spd came out in '97.
I don't recognize the fork so not sure where that came from.
Looks like the 1995 S-works M2 Road frameset built up with late gen Dura Ace 7400. I don't think they were sold in this configuration so its likely the original owner built it up themselves. The M2 is in reference to the Alu the frame is made out of and not the actual model name, as far as I...
Richard,
You are correct, in the corner is a '91 Giant Cadex 980c. Carbon main tubes and stays with aluminum lugs. Current build is a mix of 105 and Ultegra with a set of Spinergy RevX wheels. Its sort of a perpetual project since it came to me in pretty rough shape.
These old bonded frames...
I've long been fascinated by older carbon fiber bikes, mostly the carbon tube and metal lug variety, and the Exxon Graftek was really one of the first on the market having been sold from the mid to late 70's which makes it all the more cool. My particular frame is from 1977 and features...
Here's a recent picture of my '87 Specialized Allez Epic I picked up from a pawn shop several years ago. Lots of work cleaning it up, basic maintenance, and replacing parts to make it as awesome as possible. There are a few modern bits on here (saddle and pedals) as I enjoy riding it and so a...
The Miyata catalog site was actually where I first encountered the bike back when I was searching around trying to learn about the older types of carbon frames. The makeup of the carbon along with the polished aluminum lugs were what initially turned me on to the particular bike from that year...
