thanks Madjh, Got cleaned and all went back nicely, bike and gears working nicely! news cassette and chain about a year ago, but still had problems with gears jumping. Replacing crankset and worn bearings sorted, just got a bit panicky, I think shops assume BS unless stated otherwise...
