Right M that's me all sorted. Rebuilt the fork and as you said pretty straightforward. Would have taken half the time if it wasn't so full of crud and water residue. Now works like new! Thanks for your efforts and the Internet triumphs again..

Your right again M, not much point replacing on old fork with another old fork. I'm going to have a go at getting it working again if not will look for Ebay bargain. Only thing is the bike has the old Diatech collared threadless headset and never sure if I buy one it can be used on my bike...
