Thanks for all of the suggestions folks. I couldn't find a magnet strong enough that would tease the cable through the tube, but you will be pleased to hear that after two days of 'fiddling', I struck gold by using the cable/thread/vacuum method.

In a moment of weakness, I took my eye off the ball when threading a new gear cable though the top tube of the Klein.... I've spent nearly a whole day trying thread the cable through without a sleeve. PLEASE can anyone give me an insider trick to get this poxy cable back through the bleedin'...
