    Depth of cassette mount.

Does anyone know if the depth of the cassette mount on a 105 Shimano hub has changed over the years? I am looking at a hub on ebay and wondered if my cassette will fit if it's a later hub. Ta.

    Rear cassette

Is the depth of the free wheel hub the same and the later cassettes put together with slimmer gears to allow more of them?

Cheers, I know that you can get some paints for boots etc but I guess they aren't as flexible as saddles.

    Rear cassette

If I'd read the 'Seldon Brown' link properly that someone else replied with on a previous post I wouldn't have had to waste your time, apologies.

    Rear cassette

Cheers for that, it explains it nicely, a replacement wheel seems to be the best option.

    Rear cassette

Thanks for your reply, how will I know which one it is, I didn't consider that the freewheel might be in the hub but now it seems obvious. It didn't look like it was in the hub though, their was a sort of seal which was damaged which seemed to be part of the gear cluster and then the wheel...

    Rear cassette

Can I replace the rear six speed cassette on my '87 Raleigh Triathlon easy enough from a normal cycle store? The freewheel mechinism feels like the bearings have had it and I've read that it isn't worth stripping and changing the them.

    Some advice

Fitted the new tyres over the weekend and while the wheel was off checked out the freewheel as it was still sticking and it feels like the bearings have had it. I've read that it isn't worth the hassle of stripping it out and changing the bearings so I take it I put a complete cassette on. The...
