    The Pioneer Trails are great machines, I replaced both sets of shifter/brakes as the brake levers can flex a bit, also changed the canti arms for lighter alloy ones ditto chain rings, ultimately I fitted drops and RSX 'brifters' and it's now my do it all bike... btw pretty sure you can get a...

    Hopefully it'll work out for you, I'm 5' 6" and a smidge, l can just about swing my ageing leg over, likewise l reckon being an inch or so taller would work also.

    I got some mudguards but they're quite close, especially the rear, that said that's mostly due to the modern fixing bracket, using an old pressed sheet steel one may allow fitting.

    The spacers kept moving to I wrapped the adapter in white packing foam then slid the spacers over, still not 100% so I'll glue the spacers perfectly in line then replace them, May need a smidge more packing.

    These are Smart Sam 700x 40, pretty sure it'd take up to 45...possibly a tad bigger? It's a 1" quill to 1 1/8" threadless, not sure of stem but it makes changing bars etc far far easier, three 10mm spacers ease the flow from quill to ahead l think!

    Now running an stx rc as the original derailleur cage got bent when it picked a stick up, ultimately I'll pop on a Deore Xt to match the front...when I can find one in decent nick and long cage.

    Definitely so, it does everything I need and keeps up easily with modern stuff at a fraction of the cost :-)
