What a beauty – pure class.

If it were me I would definitely use washers on each spoke head to close any gap between the elbow and flange, using more than one washer on each spoke head if needed. Stress relieving the wheel after building would also help to build a strong wheel.

The hubs look great. A worthwhile project, and very interesting to follow.

I have a Sachs Maillard 6-speed, which is 31.7mm width, whereas the width of a Sachs Maillard 7-speed that I have is 36.5mm across. I have also used a mix of 6 and 7-speed sprockets and spacers on a 7-speed body to give a width of 30.6mm, which has been very handy to fit a 6-speed freewheel on...

Back in the early 1960s I used a three-speed block (I can't remember the make) on a fixed threading for a while, although I felt uneasy about the unsupported thread of the block (maths lessons at school had alerted me about 'moments' and 'forces' – although I have now forgotten the details)...

That is a super frame with a lovely choice of components – in lovely condition, too. It is great to hear how it has been owned by you since the 80s, and see the changes that have been made.

I rebuilt a pair of Gran Sport hubs into a set of HP rims in the late 70s using 14/16 gauge spokes, and I drilled out each spoke hole with a very slightly larger drill bit, and slightly enlarged the countersink, as 'keithglos' suggested. I still have the hubs, and will be rebuilding them again...

Re: 1926 Peugeot What an elegant bike. And very interesting to see the tied and soldered spoke crossings - I have only seen this done before in the 60s, with track wheels. It will be lovely to see it restored.
