Re: I think 80mm would be a good stating point for you because, according to what I've read online, the general rule of thumb is: For every 20mm increase in handlebar length - you should reduce stem length by 10mm. So if you start with 660mm bars and a 100mm stem - and want to move to 700mm...

Re: Yes, you can fit a rigid fork to the bike. Where it gets complicated is that you need to make sure they are 'suspension corrected', to suit the geometry of the frame. The Spyders on your Marin have 80mm travel. (According to: http://www.bikesdetails.info/Marin_Eldr ... _1999.html)...

Re: Yes, find out what suspension travel the frame was originally designed for. Replace with a rigid fork also designed to fit on frames made for that travel.

I had exactly the same problem recently - and concluded no new rims were available. Luckily, some NOS silver XC717s turned up on eBay. The problem is 26" is out, V-brakes are out, and silver components are also out. So your choice of rims as been drastically reduced - to the point were can’t...

Re: No way, my tortoise is much better than any turtle. Because they can live for up to 326 years, unlike the short lived turtle, that can only manage a mere 86 years. Although I do admire the turtles flat, streamlined shells - compared to the large dome shaped shell of the tortoise.
