Ah, sorry - I see what you mean now (hopefully). I meant the cable attachment bolt/screw on the front mech rather than the cable stop (it's a Campag NR derailleur).
So the inner cable runs down the downtube to the stop, then runs in an outer sleeve as it turns around the seat tube and up...

Just to be clear in my head (forgive me - I haven't done any kind of build up before) the cable stop gets used as a guide, with the cable through both holes and then looped back up to the cable stop on the derailleur?
Oh for a crusty old bike shop! Nothing like that around me I'm afraid.

That's what I thought too, but as a recent convert to old road bikes I'm paranoid about buying the wrong sized bits.

I've recently bought a lovely (well, i think it's lovely, anyway) Holdsworth Mistral frame and am busily trying to track down all the right bits and pieces to build it up for next year's L.Eroica.
