Nearly 4 years have passed and the Marin has languished uncompleted in the garage.
Dug the old girl out got stuck in again.
Last job to attempt was relacing the wheels with new spokes.
My first attempt it must be said.
The saving grace was a purchase of a spoke tension tool and using Park...
Came apart easily and decided between us of a budget for the job.
Went over the frame with wd40 and 000 wire wool then with some meguiars compound and polish…..very nice shade of green, really pops.
We stripped the brakes down and gave them wire wool treatment.
Same with the cranks, removed...
The kids wanted something to tinker with, so sourced this Puch Pursuit locally for a very reasonable sum.
The idea being to let Daisy have some spanner time stripping it down and doing some cleaning and servicing……seeing what we came out with.
Re:
Sorry cant offer any advice but interesting questilon so had a quick read.
There was a 28g saving from 1.8mm to 1.5mm db spokes 64 @ 264mm but interesting they came with brass nipples. Presume using alloy nipples would reduce the weight more.
Re: Re:
It is indeed......i shall go ahead and give them a careful trim.
I did purchased some odi attacks too so i do have those if i take bar ends off.
Thanks for that.....just found this pic online
Just didnt want to ruin the grips, do seem a fair bit wider than the standard grips controls would be a good inch or so inboard on each side.
After abit of advice...
Fitting new odi grips to my srt800s but would like to refit my bar ends.......which is best way to go about it?
Slide levers/ controls further up the bars and fit grips as they are, or trim the ends where lock wire grooves are.
Even not fit bar ends if need be, i do...
