    Lbs bb removal ?

Are the splines on the non-drive side also totally destroyed? And what kind of BB is it, Shimano or something else? If the non-drive splines are still in good shape and you have the proper spline tool to fit them, a pneumatic impact wrench (or a 2' long breaker bar) should make short work of...

1989 Merlin Titanium ... Dual Roller Cam Time!!

That cam you're using is the narrow type, Suntour made wide ones for the XCD roller cams that will work and should solve the problem (see below). Check Ebay (am I allowed to say that here?) they aren't that uncommon, or better yet just make them yourself using your existing cam plate as a template.

1982 Salsa Scoboni #5 "Restoration" *Final Photos Page 11*

Re: 1982 Salsa Scoboni #6 Build Restoration I'm not normally one to shy away from repainting a bike that's beat to hell, but this bike a) is historically significant, b) was repainted by the original owner a long time ago and all the patina is from him riding it (correct me if I'm wrong) and c)...

    PotM February - Suffering

Even though I'm mostly a lurker here and have never entered a photo, I'll play along on this one. Here's a shot of me on my 1982 "Charlie Kelly replica" Ritchey, wearing a Fat Tire Flyer t-shirt, climbing Repack on the 35th anniversary of the first Repack race. A bunch of MTB legends and some...

    WTF is people's obsession w/ 135mm 0* rise stems???

On my bikes it depends on whether I intend to ride it or not. My Bontrager originally had a 150 x 0 degree stem, but back then I was in a lot better shape and had no problems with that set up (not to mention I could climb a wall with that much weight on the front end). When I refurb'ed it I...

PotM - December - My Trail

Not following the "recent" rule, but I usually ride alone so it's hard to get a shot of myself. Me in Moab

    PotM September - Urban

Me "mountain" biking in downtown Chicago, summer of '95. I look freaked out most likely because there's a roller-blader or moron with a baby stroller rolling into my landing zone, hazards of riding in the city :P . The bike is a '93 Bontrager that I still have, see second pic for what it...

    Cutting outer cable

You guys work too hard :P . Just use a good quality side cutter like below, then trim the burr (if any) with the tip of the same cutters. I've done this thousands of times (literally) over the years and never had one problem.

    a question about shimming

Just use a strip of a beer can, it works fine. My Bontrager takes a 26.8mm post, but the one I'm using is a 26.4 wrapped 1.5 times with a 2" wide piece of a Diet Coke can. Works perfectly and you can't even tell it's shimmed from 3' away.

PoTM February 2012 - It's not about the bike

Now for something completely different: It's not about the bike OR the background, it's about tacos! Everyone likes a good taco, right? Keyesville 2010, me showboating for the camera and taking a digger one mile from the finish of the XC race.

Retro Helmets! (I'll show you mine if you show me yours ;) )

"I VMTB" is a filtered word? Huh, didn't know we were that disliked around here. I'll put them in a different folder and try again. edit: Well that didn't work either, so maybe this board doesn't like Photobucket for some reason, unless I'm using the "img" tag wrong. edit again: It must...

Retro Helmets! (I'll show you mine if you show me yours ;) )

Not sure why those pic's aren't showing up, maybe because I need 10 posts? edit: Or not, since this post was my 10th. Am I doing something wrong? I know the photos are stored in a publicly accessible place.

Retro Helmets! (I'll show you mine if you show me yours ;) )

Someone mentioned the adjustable Etto helmets so I thought I'd post a pic of mine. I still wear it for vintage rides, and it's probably the most comfortable helmet I own, including the new ones. Below the Etto are a couple more old helmets that I haven't seen any photos of in this thread. I...
