    1992 Raleigh Peak

Due to an impending house move I need to find a new home for my trusty Raleigh Peak, I've had it since new and apart from a couple of problems with brazing around the rear triangle which meant a couple of warranty replacement frames it's been reliable. It has the full original LX groupset...

Macbook batteries - only a grand!

That price is an eBay tactic used by sellers who have run out of stock (check the previous purchases link on the listing) and don't want to pull the advert, once they actually have batteries to sell the price will be back down to the £15 mark.

    Windows 7 SP1

I used that technique to rescue my own system but I haven't updated the other Windows 7 machines just yet. My machine reports it is running SP1 but I'm not sure it's a complete installation. One other machine has SP1 installed and didn't need my attention so I guess it's not a dead cert that...

Computer prob-File segment xxxxxx is unreadable

Yep, exact clone, I've only used it to clone drives so the normal routine is to add the new drive as a secondary, install Ghost and set the task up, the PC then reboots to a DOS session and clones the disk. PC reboots and you can then shut it down and swap the disks so the new disk becomes the...

    Windows 7 SP1

I had this with my work PC and ended up at a highly useful forum post via Google which gave step by step instructions on removing a section of one of the XML files which are used by the update. Once this was done it then continued and has been useable since although I'm still not certain...

Computer prob-File segment xxxxxx is unreadable

Ghost allows to create an image of your drive for recovery purposes or to clone your drive to a new one, it also does backups I think. Very handy if you are just replacing a small drive with a larger one but I don't know how useful it would be with an unbootable system.

Computer prob-File segment xxxxxx is unreadable

What Neil said... Disks can and do fail without warning sometimes. Backup what you can and replace it, I've had two drives go at work in the last week, working one day and semi-functional at best the next. Cheap enough to replace though, for the cost it's not worth risking your data.

    events in japan

Wow, how wrong was I? :( Just read on the BBC site that Tepco are saying that re-criticality isn't out of the question which is disastrous if they are referring to the storage pond of reactor 4 which seems to be the case although on the plus side they are close to re-connecting to the grid which...
