An entry level Marin is not the first choice for a resto project and Im not a great fan of Marin either, but when I came across this on eBay I found it oddly appealing with its yellow paintwork and lower U-brake configuration. I am unsure if its an 88 or an 89 model
Arriving at the sellers...
Re:
Very true, This is however my issue. evilBay promotes inflated prices, Retro components or bikes go up and down based on their desirability each week . The sale of individual retro components collectively can on occasion exceed the cost of a complete bike depending on the buyers...
Hi,
Im selling this as as a whole or possible split, The 19" frame was found after a few rides to be a bit large for my wife, and it hasn't really been used since.
Here is the post when I bought it.

I would prefer to sell it complete as its mostly original apart...
Right a bit of an update, It wasn't really rideable when I got it. Gears were out by a mile and the wheels were not straight. Ive spent the last couple of days getting it rideable and I must say it rides very admirably. the rear cassette ring is loose but some tools appear to have gone walkabout...
This frame for me is also too big and that almost decided its fate
unfortunately it is a perfect size for the other half, and she wants a bike so she can keep up with me when we are out. She has taken a fancy to it for no other reason than it's lighter than the pile of poo she has...
I'll do my best  I did actually buy a 1992 Wheeler 7700 with a Deore DX groupset off ebay with the intention of using the DX as a donor for this Kona. (Look at my other post), but Didnt expect it to be in such an original condition. Since then the missus seems to have taken a fancy to it...
In all fairness since buying it I am undecided about stripping it. I did my research when I found it on eBay and the general consensus in the biking community was that Wheeler mass produced average frames of little or no significance but fitted high spec quality components. Armed with this...
The bike bug has definatly bitten me once again, This is now my fourth purchase in a month. A Wheeler 7700 aluminium framed mtb with a Deore DX Groupset purchased off eBay. I have bought this with the intention of stripping the DX group and fitting it to my Kona Lavadome Restoration. The bike...
I believe so, my knowledge of the company is limited but what information Ive come across on the net supports this. Early Kona catalogs also listed Brodie in their line up.
If anyone is interested what became of this Kona I am restoring it properly. Initially I mis-measured the seat tube and thought it was a 17" tho it is 16", the thread is here.

Hi RockiMtn Yes some threads are powder coated, I did wonder myself. Seat post goes in fine and have fitted a rear mech to tap the threads along with bottle cage nuts. I haven't tried fitting cups yet.
out of interest, what RM logo on the headtube? the only decal I think is missing is "the...
