I'm completely stumped by this because it was on my bike when he gave it to me and I moved away in February 1999. It's never had any work done on it either, so it could not have been added afterwards etc because it hasn't seen daylight for over 26 years.
Totally see what you're saying with...
The designer said 'prototype' when he gave it to me. Does anyone know the name of the person who designed the bike? I'm tempted to track him down to show him the bike once it's done. My family still live in Halifax, so I do pop up every few months.
I have been racking my brains trying to remember which year I got the bike, then realised - it is the year my company gave me a P reg 214 Rover.
We had to wait for the new reg to come out, which runs from August 1996 and I met the client shortly after this, so late 1996. I dont know anything...
I sold the Astra to a local chap who likes 80's hot hatches. He had to sell his Golf GTI to pay for his son's overseas medical bill so he's now on with putting it on the road. Only took an hour or so to get it up and running, so he's chuffed to bits and next time I'm in Halifax I'm going to...
I took a couple at the place who's servicing the bike, but he said he's going to photograph the process and send me regular updates, so I'll post these when I have them.
Incidentally, my neighbour found the serial number 00569. Does that help date it?? I am 100% confident all the parts are...
Thanks for this, very much appreciated.
I had already emailed a local chap and asked if he had any experience of 'older bikes' and told him it was an older Orange. He came back with 'Absolutely' and explained he had a real passion for older bikes and has 2 Orange bikes of his own. I popped...
There is a local independent chap who offers a service where the bike is 'stripped to a bare frame and meticulously examined, cleaned and polished. Components examined for wear, cleaned or replaced then re fitted. Wheels trued and re tensioned if needed. You bike will look like new!'
Not sure...
Hi, I'm new to this sort of stuff but have just realised by clicking on your name it says you are 'New Forest'. I was kinda hoping I could have brought the bike to you for servicing etc
Hi FluffyChicken.
That rear mech is definitely the same age as the bike, none of the components have been replaced as I only rode it around 15 times before moving down south. It just says 'Shimano Deore' on it. The cranks say 'Shimano' cutting through a big 'A'. The stem has says 'OX SK9'...
Hi Jonnyboy666, thanks for your reply and the info. I have a fondness for the bike, partly because of the fact that it was a gift from the chap who designed it and partly because the company originates from Halifax. I believe they are now based in Elland, the little town I grew up in.
Where...
Hello, I grew up in Elland (just outside Halifax) and, in the 90's helped a chap who worked for Orange. As a thank you, he gave me a yellow bike and told me it was a prototype. I used the bike about 15 times and, after receiving a job offer - moved to Suffolk in 1999 and left the bike at my...
