Just checked and my shifters are post 2001 so I will keep on looking for a while. I will contact you again if I can't get the correct period, if that's OK.

won't the 10 speed veloce you have work? I thought (but happily corrected if wrong) that 21st century 9 speed and 10 speed have the same pull ratio ???. If the 10 speed has a narrower cage, then use 10 speed instead of 9 speed chains

Indeed, you are right. 9s post-2001 and 10s have exactly the same derailleur leverage.
