Painting a couple of frames

As @fguki says, powder way cheaper.

My guy and girls use a 3 coat system...( they blast first with appropriate media) then anti rust primer, polyester powder, followed by clear powder over. They do all the taping up and bunging up too.

Cost is between £60 and £100 ex vat for basic ral colours depending on topcoat ( flat, gloss, sparkle) etc.

Also, remember not all powder is the same, there are different types and its come on a loooong way from the bloke down the road doing gates !

You can pay more, i did a fade with prismatic illusion, colour changing metalic powder and clear top. Expensive powder and long process, but still only £140.
That is a good price, trying to paint at "home" and to get it correct costs way more than someone would think on materials and time. Do you have an example of a finished coating so I can take a look, keeping in mind some future projects?

Sure.....

My last 2 im working on.

Metallic ral 9022 or 9023 with clear topcoat...can't remember off the top of my head.
&
Prismatic violet faded into purple with illusion topcoat.

I'll be taking the frames in for a powdering over the next few weeks. I decided it was simpler that way and powder is quite durable a finish.

Most likely both frames will be done in red. I'm looking forward to it - usually the minute you fork out $$$ for a job like this another complete bike comes along with a nice, intact paint job. Murphy's at work!

I'm thinking about powder coating my Raleigh 8803. i want to do the team Castorama finish which is basically white with a transfer pack doing all of the heavy lifting in terms of finishing.

Any thoughts on this and also does anyone know a place in the Derby/East Midlands area that is familiar with powder coating bicycle frames?

You saying about going powder coating I was told that painting would give a better and harder finish.

Or have I been told incorrectly as most here have gone powder coating.

Thanks

PMC in Long Eaton did my CRM250 frame a couple of years ago and it came out really nice. Blasted it too.
Only downside to powder coating is you've still got a decades-old frame corroding away inside it and you won't have any idea until it breaks.
