New to forum, know nothing about bikes, advice on 'barn find', well back of a dusty warehouse find to be accurate. Muddyfox chromo comp courier purple

Wildurbanfox

Retro Newbie
Hello all,

Can you help me identify an old Muddy fox Mtb, that I've saved from being skipped.
I don't ride, but remember these from childhood, so may take it up (nothing serious though).

Questions.

1. Is this actually an early MF? When they were decent? (Brakes look newer to me?)
2. Would it be worth 'fixing up'? If so, upgrade? Or keep vintage/original (if it is currently?)
3. Would anyone be interested on taking on a project? (If this actual is an older model that some may reminisce?! Who knows).

Hopefully I'm not wasting anyone's time, and something has been saved from a skip!?

Here's some picks (I thought it was black due to dust but appears purple). Thank you for your time/advice

Well done for finding it. With a little love, tlc, some lube and a service, it'll make someone a nice machine.
Looking at the tyres, good quality and durable road tyres, I imagine someone has been using it as a commuter.
Unfortunately, it was a lower end model from probably 25-years ago. New, I'm estimating, it would have been ~£300.
Now unfortunately, it's probably a £50 machine.

Welcome to the forum 😄 It feels only fair to warn you that now you have entered, that you could soon be in a world of ever decreasing shed space!!!

Anyway, lovely find! My guess would be it is a 1996 Courier Comp (Other more knowledgeable MF'ers will know for sure)

Is it worth building up - Yes! Of course! Especially if you are going to have fun doing it and then riding it (That is where the real value is in any bike IMHO!) If you are new to this kind of thing, you'll find loads of advice on here.

Cool, thanks for info. £300 25yrs ago would have been quite a chunk (for someone's parent's to fork out at Christmas, guessing as lower end).

Cheers, I hate to see anything scrapped, my shed is already rammed with 'wombled' projects, and currently stuck down the fixing up guitars rabbit hole!

Thanks, after looking through the brochures, my best guess is '95 courier comp?
I don't know the terminology, but the chocolate material, colour, and stickers match!
Different handlebar, pedals, etc etc.
Will 'sit on it', as a project, but will have to fit the seat first!
Thanks all
